SPLICING YOUR STORY

Splicing Your Story is a two-day creative writing workshop designed for scientists, healthcare professionals, and researchers who want to explore fiction rooted in personal experience. Whether you’re a nurse with a story that’s haunted you, a bench researcher with a secret love of science fiction, or a physician curious about creative writing, this workshop offers a supportive, craft-focused environment to help you begin.

Many people in science and medicine carry powerful lived experiences — moments of insight, conflict, wonder, and ethical complexity — but translating that experience into fiction can feel daunting. In this intensive workshop, participants will learn how to draw on their professional lives to generate compelling narratives using the tools of autofiction and imaginative storytelling.

We’ll explore ethical fictionalization, narrative voice, structure, and how to balance scientific detail with emotional depth. Through a mix of guided writing, discussion, and example texts, attendees will leave with new work-in-progress and a deeper understanding of how lived knowledge can fuel creative writing.

No prior writing experience is required. Open to adults 18+ with a background in any scientific or clinical field.
